Abstract

In this seminar, Dr. Hossain will introduce the research activities on the adoption of circular economy in sustainable construction in Hong Kong. The research focused on ensuring and advancing environmental sustainability in construction sector by applying life cycle assessment techniques, sustainable design of concrete and concrete product, valorization of waste materials, development of clean technologies and materials (from solid waste and industrial by-products) upcycling for lowering the environmental impacts in the construction industry, effective design and use of materials for green building, climate change and other sustainability issues in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Hossain will provide few examples of applications and method development in this emerging research field.

About the Speaker

Dr. Hossain obtained his PhD from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2017. Before starting his PhD, he obtained his Master Degree focusing on Sustainable Urban Development from Chongqing University in 2013. Dr. Hossain is now working as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Civil Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, with focusing on the sustainable construction, green building assessment, environmental benchmarking of construction materials, circular economy, etc. So far, Dr. Hossain is the author of about 14 papers published in the high quality international (SCI) Journals and 9 papers are in under review and in preparation. Based on his scientific contribution, Dr. Hossain has been awarded the “Academy Awards 2017” in the category "Best Contribution to Sustainable Production" globally by International Life Cycle Academy and SETAC Europe. He also received Bangladesh Prime Minister Gold Medal 2010, and Dean Award (Gold Medal) in 2013, for his Excellency in academic results nationally and university level, respectively.
